It isn’t Halloween yet, but it doesn’t stop people carving skulls. Russian artist Dimitri Tsykalov uses an axe, saw and electrical drill to carve his creepy skull out of fresh fruit and vegetables, such as apples, eggplants, watermelons and even cabbages. After carving the sculptures Dimitri Tsykalov uses a scalpel, pincers and cotton wool pads to add and smooth remarkable detail with ‘surgical precision’. Once I have finished carving, Tsykalov let oxidation do its work – leaving the sculpted piece of fruit to ripen in his studio over a few days. The flies let him know when it’s ready and time to take a picture. It is just so cool! [source]
