Saunas are the very height of relaxation. They have been, for many years, associated with the richest among us, yet they are accessible by all. There are a few different types of saunas that you may not know about, however, which is why we have written this page. With each different type of sauna comes a different experience, despite the advantages remaining largely the same throughout. If you have not yet experienced a sauna, then we recommend that you do, for they are a one-of-a-kind experience and are definitely to be checked out.

In this article, we will tell you what the different types of sauna are, and what the advantages of going into saunas are. The advantages are, as mentioned a moment ago, generally the same no matter what type of sauna you go into, so you can expect to see the same results.

Here are the different types of sauna and the advantages that come along with going into saunas.

Types of Sauna

Finnish Sauna

Finnish saunas are usually lined with wood. They are, without a doubt, the sauna we are most familiar with and the one’s whose image we conjure up when the word ‘sauna’ is mentioned. Inside Finnish saunas, you will find rocks heated by charcoal, water, and a ladle. With the water and ladle you can control the humidity of the sauna by adding water atop the rocks. This can increase the sauna’s humidity by up to forty percent. The higher the temperature, the lower the humidity; the higher the humidity, the lower the temperature.

Dry Sauna

Dry saunas are similar to Finnish saunas, although they do not have water, just the heated rocks. These types of saunas are most often found in gymnasiums and have much lower humidity. However, you can actually add water onto the rocks in a dry sauna, which will increase the humidity, though other sauna users may not be happy with this and the gymnasium may not permit you to do this. Even so, dry saunas are a lot of fun.

Infrared Sauna

Infrared saunas are very different from the others mentioned on this page, the reason being that there is no humidity, nor can humidity be added into the room. An infrared sauna heats a person’s temperature up and keeps the temperature in. These types of saunas have become very popular in the last few years and have many benefits.

Steam Baths

Steam baths are another unusual sauna. While there are few similarities between steam or infrared, they are unique in that they are the most different from the other saunas mentioned on this page. Steam saunas have a temperature of around 120 degrees, and they are most often built with glass. They have one hundred percent humidity, which makes the sauna feel far hotter than it actually is.

The Advantages of Saunas

Pain Reduction

If you suffer from inflammation or muscle soreness, saunas can be of great assistance. Saunas can improve your joint movement and ease the pain that is brought on by arthritis. Pain reduction is one of the best benefits of saunas and one of the main reasons that many arthritic people use them. They can be a great benefit and can change your life if you use them regularly enough. Definitely give them a go.

Stress

Most of us walk around in states of perpetual stress. The world is, inarguably, a very hard place, and very hard to deal with at the best of times. Because of this, we find ourselves incredibly stressed out. Saunas, however, offer relief and can be a great way to reduce your stress and live a happier, more normal life. If you, like many people, walk around in a state of complete stress and anxiety, then we definitely recommend you give saunas a go. They have been very successful in improving stress for many people.

Skin Problems

Saunas can help dry the skin out during use. Some people who suffer skin conditions such as psoriasis may find that their symptoms are reduced while using a sauna and that over time, it gets better. With that said, however, people who suffer from atopic dermatitis may find that their conditions worsen. Because of this, you must ensure that you do not have the latter condition, for you could find yourself in some bother if you do. The best way to establish whether or not a sauna is suitable for your condition is to consult your doctor and to ask them whether or not a sauna is safe.
