Meet Kohei Ohmori, a 30-year-old artist whose meticulous pencil drawings of metallic objects have captivated audiences worldwide. Despite battling OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), Ohmori has turned his condition into a strength, channeling his intense focus into his art. This remarkable journey recently culminated in his solo exhibition at the Setouchi City Museum of Art.
Ohmori’s passion for drawing emerged at a young age, with a particular fascination for the shiny luster of metallic objects. His exceptional ability to recreate these objects with just a pencil is nothing short of astounding. However, his academic journey was challenging. His intense concentration made it difficult to manage multiple assignments, leading him to drop out of traditional high school and complete his diploma online. He also attempted a higher education degree in art but soon left to fully dedicate himself to his drawings.
In 2017, a pivotal moment occurred when his sister shared one of his works-in-progress on social media. The post went viral, attracting millions of views, including that of the Setouchi City Museum of Art curator. Recognizing Ohmori’s talent, the curator began following his career closely. Fast forward to 2024, and Ohmori has just concluded his first solo exhibition at the museum.
