Laguna Beach based Andrew Myers is the only artist in the world who uses screws as the main medium to create three-dimensional artworks. Simply put – he screws art.
He starts with a base, plywood panel, and then places pages of a phone book on top. He then draws out a face and pre-drills 8,000 to 10,000 holes, by hand. As he drills in the screws, Myers doesn’t rely on any computer software to guide him, he figures it out as he goes along. “For me, I consider this a traditional sculpture and all my screws are at different depths,” he says.
With these multi-step process, Andrew Myers create incredible works of art you almost have to see (or touch) to believe. Those are really incredible work, a lot of emotion and effort are needed here. And Andrew Myers says he’s not doing it for the money, but rather to reach an nontraditional audience – guys who would rather hang out in a hardware store than an art gallery, and even the blind, who can touch the screws and immediately visualize the artwork.
