Designed by Italian artist Francesco Romoli, “Postcards from the future” is a playful series in which Romoli has transformed classic portraits from the early 19th century into unexpected creatures – part human, part machine. In his imagination, the future should be filled with human-robot hybrids. Hence, Romoli replace portions of the various human bodies with radio sets, robots, televisions or light-bulb, and create this unusual series. The combination of old-fashioned clothes and futuristic elements not only looks surreal but also a little bit comical. When asks to talk about this project, the artist says, “What we call chaos is just patterns we haven’t recognized. What we call random is just patterns we cant decipher. What we can’t understand we call nonsense. What we can’t read we call gibberish. There is no free will. There are no variables. There is only the inevitable.”
