Designed by international agency Technicon Design, IXION is a jet concept that replaces windows with screens that can display the external environment inside the cabin walls and ceiling. Cameras mounted on the plane’s main body and wings capture the surrounding vistas, so that passengers can have an unparalleled, 360° view of breathtaking scenery around. Moreover, in order to drive low voltage systems on-board, a series of amorphous solar panels are placed on the upper front half of the exterior, which also powers the sensors for the passenger tracking system.
When asked why they come up with this “windowless” idea, the team team said, “The ethos of the project is simple, to challenge current thinking, and propose something a little different, but not just a fantasy. It is credible and relevant to remove the windows from the cabin and use existing or very near future technology to display the exterior environment on flexible screens.”
