Emilia Lucht and Arne Sebrantke of German design studio We Love Eames designed an interesting lamp Mygdal Plantlamp that allow greenery to grow inside without the use of direct sunlight and water. They worked closely with glass blower to create the ideal shape for the lamp and the end result is two versions – a pendant lamp and a standing lamp. Both lamps have small plants growing inside and LED light is used to replicated sunlight. The lights are a completely self-sustaining ecosystem, where they claim the plants can grow undisturbed for years. Sounds pretty cool. However, I am not sure how the plant can live without water. Anyway, interesting idea but not quite practical for me.
