Personally, I am not a big fan of dressed dolls, no matter it is human or animal. Somehow, they always reminds me of those horror movies. Hence, I have a quite mixed feeling when I saw the work from Elena Alekhina. The Saint Petersburg-based artist makes cute and strange realistic dolls that combine animal heads with charmingly dressed human-like bodies.
Using papier-mache and printed fabrics, Alekhina created those realistic small cat and dog toys. The she photographs them against the backdrop of Kazan Cathedral, the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Griboyedov canal, and Fontanka river. You can often one can see sphynx cats and beagle dogs on her Instagram. So far her collection includes sailor cats, portrait painters, travelers, and even newly married couples.
