Felted art becomes quite popular these days, while most of them are about felted toys or sculptures. hiladelphia-based textile artist Holly Guertin (aka Ernie and Irene) tries to do something different. Using a needle and wool, she creates three-dimensional, felted animal paintings which can be used as wall hangings. The portraits of fluffy creatures such as llamas, sheep, and alpacas look perfectly on the wall and bring a touch of coziness to your home.
Guertin uses a combination of two techniques to hand-craft each piece. First, “wet felting” technique is used for create the fuzzy base. Then, the raised elements are crafted with complex needlework, recreating the textured “pencil-like locks” of an alpaca. Usually, it takes hours of intricate work to develop a pronounced three-dimensional shape. If you like these unusual 3D felted wall art, you can get them from artist’s Etsy store.
