In the historic Villa Fiorelli neighborhood of Rome, Casa Polly stands out as a creative masterpiece. Designed by 02A Studio, this 1960s apartment is transformed into a family-friendly haven that merges the boldness of brutalism with the playful energy of pop art. The result is a vibrant home that balances history with modern flair.
The original apartment, once the workspace of designer Valerio Ciampicacigli, showcased classic brutalist features: raw concrete, open spaces, and a focus on materiality. Architects Marco Rulli and Thomas Grossi of 02A Studio reimagined the space, adding pops of color, whimsical patterns, and quirky details to reflect the vibrant personalities of its new owners, actress Martina Pinto and director Alessandro Poggi.
A Creative Space with a Functional Heart
Spanning 1,292 square feet, Casa Polly’s layout was reconfigured to meet the needs of a growing family. At the heart of the home is a spacious open-plan living area. Here, a concrete pillar anchors the design, surrounded by a mix of materials that create balance: terrazzo flooring with a resin finish, glossy tiles in the kitchen, and warm wooden accents on a raised dining platform.
The design flows seamlessly between stark minimalism and playful detailing. In the hallway, hidden storage is concealed by lilac-striped walls, turning practicality into art. The primary bedroom brims with cartoonish charm, featuring plush furnishings, light blue carpeting, and a wavy green doorframe leading to the ensuite bathroom.
A Family-Centric Approach
Though bold in design, Casa Polly is made for family life. It includes a child’s bedroom, a walk-in closet, and a dedicated laundry area, ensuring functionality matches its artistic appeal. Every room reflects thoughtful details: the bathroom features pastel pink tiles, a fluted vanity, and a striking yellow mirror that adds a playful twist.
