Utilizing bamboo’s natural cylinder shape which is perfect for housing components, designer Jordan Korokna’s Bamboo Torch flashlight aims to reduce material waste with a more sustainable, ecological and financially beneficial material – bamboo. Its tactile feel and natural antibacterial quality are a refreshing change to cheap, brightly colored plastics and metal. It sounds nice. However, it is quite impossible to make a mass-production since each bamboo might have different diameter. How it can hold standard inner component perfectly? If it can’t, then some kind of filling need to be introduced and it won’t achieve design’s financially beneficial aim any more. Maybe, I am wrong…
