Boo! Or should we say roar? Maybe squeak? In Lisa Agnetun’s whimsical world of ceramic ghosts, the answer is all of the above. Based in Gothenburg, Sweden—lovingly nicknamed “Ghostenburg”—Agnetun creates charming ceramic ghosts that disguise themselves as walruses, octopi, and even blocks of cheese with mice.
Agnetun’s ghosts are anything but typical Halloween decorations. Instead, they’re playful, adorable figures that take on the form of animals and sometimes snacks, often grouped in pairs or trios. While ghosts are usually tied to Halloween, Agnetun emphasizes that her creations are for year-round enjoyment. “My ghosts are not for Halloween,” she says. “They are for life.”
Using a variety of ceramic techniques, such as handbuilding and glaze mixing, Agnetun brings her sculptures to life, imbuing them with character and charm. “I love how this lifeless material allows me to create something that feels like it has a soul by the end of the process,” she explains. Each piece is unique yet carries a shared essence, much like people.
Agnetun regularly updates her Etsy shop with new creations and is preparing for an exhibition next summer. Keep an eye on her website and Instagram for updates and announcements.
