Peter Callesen is a Danish artist who used a combination of cutting, folding and the negative spaces cut out from the paper to create mind blowing art from a single sheet of white paper. He uses paper because he says it is “probably the most common and consumed media used for carrying information today,” but we “rarely notice the actual materiality” of it. The materialization of a flat piece of paper becomes a magical process for him. Playing with perceived dimensions and silhouettes, Callesen present an amazing 2D and 3D world with objects like three-dimensional flowers falling from a bouquet’s negative, a hummingbird flying from the page, or a child-size castle.
