South Korean artist Iurum brings an enchanting twist to resin art through her series Life in Icecream, capturing delicate, nostalgic moments suspended in translucent, lollipop-inspired sculptures. Using resin as her medium, Iurum creates miniature scenes within glossy, colorful gradients, each piece resembling a tempting ice cream treat—complete with lifelike bite marks. Her art invites viewers to savor these sweet snapshots of life, encouraging a playful yet poignant reflection on memories.
Each “lollipop” sculpture in Life in Icecream showcases vibrant layers of resin, creating the illusion of edible treats on a stick. Within these transparent, gradient-hued forms, Iurum embeds tiny figurines that recall joyful, simple moments. One sculpture reveals a little girl playing with a lamb, while another displays two figures enjoying a bicycle ride. These scenes evoke a sense of nostalgia and playfulness, transporting the viewer back to cherished childhood memories.
Yet, beneath the bright and whimsical appearance, Iurum’s work carries a deeper message. According to the artist, ice cream represents “sweet euphoria” and the comfort of happy, safe moments, yet the miniatures inside these frozen treats embody life’s fleeting fragility. She describes this contrast as “SWEETCH”—a blend of “sweet” and “switch”—symbolizing the transformation of delicate memories into something warm and comforting.
Through Life in Icecream, Iurum seeks to blend joy and bittersweet reflection, inviting viewers to experience life’s memories in a new, comforting light. If you’re in Taipei, her work will be on display at ART TAIPEI from October 25–28, 2024.
