As a person without patience and far away from detail-oriented, I am always easily fascinated by those works needs a lot of attention and patience. However, Susanna Bauer (previous) not just amaze me but actually leave me a lot of exclamation marks in my head. I just can’t imagine how someone can create such delicacy works.
To work with dry and fragile leaves as a medium for crochet seems nearly impossible, but Bauer, the England-based artist somehow manages to do that and produce below miraculous little sculptures that fuse the natural world with the handmade. Treating fragile leaves like leather, Bauer finds a fine balance in my work between fragility and strength and magically stitch dry dead leaves introduce unusual patterns or create hybrid “assemblages” of multiple fragments.
Below are some of latest works from Bauer and you can find more of Bauer’s works formed from leaves, thread, and twigs on her website and Instagram.
