In the wake of the October 2024 dana, a powerful storm that devastated parts of Spain, Héctor Serrano Studio has found a way to turn destruction into something meaningful. The studio has collected 85 roots washed up on the beaches of southern Valencia and transformed them into stunning vases—a project that blends art, sustainability, and community support.

Each vase represents a municipality affected by the storm, making them more than just decorative pieces—they are symbols of resilience. Sales from these one-of-a-kind Raíces vases will go towards rebuilding efforts in the region, with proceeds donated to CERAI, an organization dedicated to sustainable rural development.

The storm left Valencia’s coastline littered with uprooted trees, broken branches, and plant debris, shaped by the force of wind and water. Some of these natural fragments bore unique, sculptural forms. Inspired by this, designer Héctor Serrano carefully selected and repurposed 85 roots, crafting them into vases designed to hold plants or cuttings that can later be transplanted—giving new life where it was lost.

If you’d like to own a piece of this meaningful project, you can purchase a vase by emailing monica@hectorserrano.com.

Each vase starts at 100 € + shipping, but if you feel inspired to donate more, your generosity will go directly to rebuilding family vegetable gardens in Sot de Chera, where 80% of crops were lost in the storm.

This project is a reminder that even in destruction, there is room for regrowth, renewal, and hope. 🌱
